Suburbia Roller Derby (Yonkers, NY), will play host to a doubleheader this weekend when the New York Shock Exchange take on the Connecticut Death Quads and Suburbia faces off against the Jersey Brawl.

In the opening half of the twin bill, the undefeated all-male New York Shock Exchange will play a full 60 minutes against the Connecticut Death Quads. The last time these teams met in September 2009, they were allies, not enemies. Skaters from both teams formed the Death Shock, who played a full-length exhibition bout against the Dirty Homicide (comprised of skaters from Pioneer Valley’s Dirty Dozen and Baltimore’s Harm City Homicide) at the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association’s Eastern Regionals Tournament in Raleigh, NC . The Death Shock emerged victorious by a score of 94 to 83.

This time, however, NYSE and CTDQ are back on opposing sides. In their only other head-to-head matchup to date, New York dominated Connecticut in October of 2008, 193-13. In the year since then, the Death Quads have gained much more bout experience, including decisive victories over Harm City and the Puget Sound Outcasts. NYSE is fresh off victories over Harm City (56-35 in 20 minutes) and Pioneer Valley (73-56 in 40 minutes). Connecticut is hungry to be the first team to defeat New York, and have added power to their lineup in the form of Crash Daily (formerly of Pioneer Valley), who will be making his Death Quad debut. The Shock Exchange also adds a fresh face with Ladies Knight (#2 for 1), a promising new skater in his first bout with the team. Expect a hard-hitting bout with scorching displays of speed and agility.

In the women’s half of the double feature, Suburbia’s All-Stars, the Suburban Brawl, take the track against Jersey Brawl, an all-state, all-star team featuring skaters from the Garden State’s multiple leagues. SRD is a recently welcomed member of WFTDA and are ranked #15 in the East region. They are currently 1-1 in interleague play, losing to Connecticut’s Stepford Sabotage 124-38 in June and stomping the Long Island Roller Rebels 158-40 in August. Jersey Brawl’s last matchup was in August, where they bested Delaware’s Wilmington City Ruff Rollers by a score of 150 to 95.

Suburbia’s skaters have enjoyed an active intraleague season but are ready to meet new opposition in the Jersey skaters. Expect strong jamming from the scrappy Hard-Core Vette and hard hits from blockers Brawl Stanley and Suffah Kate. Jersey Brawl has not made their bout roster for Saturday available at this time, but they will likely have a strong crew to rise to the challenge in Yonkers.

The action will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 7 at the Yonkers P.A.L. at 127 N. Broadway. Doors open at 4:30 and tickets are available through the Suburbia Roller Derby website.

Thanks to our team mates, New York Shock Exchange, and our worthy opponents, Harm City Homicide and PVRD Dirty Dozen, for an exciting and hard-fought bout; it was an honor to play with and against you. Extra gigantic thanks to Carolina Roller Girls and the Wicked Wheels of the East staff for inviting the men to play this exhibition bout; it seemed like the crowd enjoyed watching the boys play, and we sure enjoyed playing.
